HR 3567 — A bill to amend Title IV of the Social Security Act to require states to implement policies to prevent assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program from being used in strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores.

The chamber is expected to consider a bill (HR 3582) to require the Congressional Budget Office to issue a supplemental report that takes into account the effect that bills might have on economic growth.

Extenders and Tax Overhaul

Senate Finance Committee (Chairman Baucus, D-Mont.) will hold a hearing titled "Extenders and Tax Reform: Seeking Long-Term Solutions." The session will focus on efforts to find a long-term solution for the tax provisions that require frequent renewal, commonly called "tax extenders." Many provisions in the tax code expire annually or biannually, but usually Congress passes legislation that extends them. There are more than 50 of these tax extenders, and the frequent threat of expiration causes uncertainty among taxpaying businesses, families and individuals. In addition the hearing will evaluate what role tax extenders should play in the tax overhaul reform process aimed at broadening the tax base, lowering rates and making the tax code more fair, efficient and simple.
